About
Preserving accessible creative spaces adapted to the realities of artists and artisans: this is the challenge that Ateliers Belleville took on by acquiring their own building. From this vision was born LAB-545, a new space of over 55,000 square feet bringing together artists’ studios, specialized production spaces, presentation venues, and shared areas. An independent, living, and sustainable environment, designed to foster exchange, collaboration, and the transmission of savoir-faire.
The time has come to celebrate this new address! Ateliers Belleville joins forces with Eastern Bloc, a partner and collaborator, who lends its support to give the occasion its full scope. Co-conceived by both organizations, the inaugural event unfolds from June 11 to 13, 2026, weaving together two worlds: by day, discover the energy of an artistic community in action; by evening, immerse yourself in original audiovisual performances under the banner of SIGHT+SOUND, Eastern Bloc’s digital arts festival.
Three days to explore this new creative hub, meet those who bring it to life, and celebrate its opening together.

From June 11 to 13, 2026, the SIGHT+SOUND festival presents its 14th edition: a series of audiovisual performances by artists whose practices question, challenge, and redefine the relationship between sound and image.
The works, all presented by duos, emerge from new collaborations, shifts toward new mediums, or the revival of practices that had been temporarily set aside. True to the essence of the festival, these works reveal a relationship of mutual dependence between sound and image, creating immersive, sculptural environments in constant variation. These performances share a focus on what occurs in the space between: between two mediums, between two practices, between two artists, prioritizing open-ended processes in which uncertainty is a condition of possibility.
An immersive performance in which light, smoke, wind, and sound interact in real time, drawing the audience into a contemplative state where the boundaries of reality dissolve.
An audiovisual performance in eight movements, Sonic Apophenia weaves modular synthesis and visual hallucinations in a feedback loop where sound and image continuously transform each other.
Entre la pellicule filmique projetée et manipulée en direct et les compositions semi-improvisées à l’orgue électronique deux matières se rencontrent, se transforment et glissent lentement l’une vers l’autre.

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
In a performance installation, streamed live into the Salle Commune from a secret location hidden within Ateliers Belleville, the artists aim to create an atmosphere and present new music; revealing, in the process, the conditions that make musical creation possible. The setting evokes a movie set: smoke, candles, old VHS films projected silently, and several cameras capturing details of the set, with the footage displayed in the main space. An artist is always present, sleeping on a camping bed when not arranging the set. On Fridays and Saturdays, a thirty-minute concert will be presented to the public on a screen in the common room.
During a guided tour, step behind the scenes of LAB-545 to discover its studios and specialized facilities. A rare opportunity to connect with the artists and learn more about their practices and works.
Immerse yourself in the rich diversity of disciplines that bring the space to life, from digital and visual arts to fine crafts, including metalwork, woodworking, textiles, glass, ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, stained glass, and much more.
Get hands-on with a series of free workshops led by LAB-545 members. Open to adults and children alike, these creative sessions also include activities designed specifically for younger audiences. Join us in the Salle Commune on the 1st floor of the building.
Untangling/Démêlage : active meditation Valérie Gariépy
During this relational, meditative performance, Valérie embroiders an inner ear and invites you into an introspective space, where the act of untangling knots becomes a way of exploring and quieting one’s thoughts.
Come join a session of freewheeling collage and drawing in the fervid tradition of the drawing clubs of yore. At the Halifax Drawing Club, held in Rebecca’s living room back in 2003, drawings were passed around, an activity you are welcome to participate in, with no obligation. Materials will be provided on-site.
Michael will read a short excerpt from his debut novel, Koh-i-Noor, in which the art teacher critiques the hippies.

Open Stone is an exploration of noise through the interaction of Anne Dahl’s sculptures and Elizabeth Johnson’s weavings, producing textures and sounds. The term “open stone” derives from the lithography process, central to the material practices of both artists.

Make a boat that floats using a recycled sardine can and other materials. The workshop is inspired by a sardine can boat the artist improvised at Martinique Beach in Nova Scotia.

Support us
On the occasion of the grand opening, Ateliers Belleville is launching a crowdfunding campaign on La Ruche. More than a call for donations, it is an invitation: to join the celebration while making a meaningful gesture. The campaign also serves as a ticketing platform for the event’s paid activities — you support the project and reserve your spot in one single step.
But this project goes beyond the event itself. The grand opening is a catalyst for long-term initiatives, beginning with the goal of this campaign: opening LAB-545 to emerging artists and the school community. Ateliers Belleville does not carry this goal alone: through the Fonds Mille et UN (FM1), a joint initiative of the Secrétariat à la jeunesse du Québec and La Ruche, every contribution will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $15,000, if the goal is reached.
